In intro chemistry classes one will learn about trends in the periodic table. Usually these are presented in a flat on a page with an arrow indicating the direction of a trend. To give a more hands on approach where one can see trends directly 3d periodic table models were created.

Python was used to generate OpenSCAD code producing periodic tables whose height varied with the value of a property; high values having a taller bar than those with small ones. These models can be viewed directly on a computer. They may also be 3d printed or carved out with a CNC machine. In addition to providing something physical to explore, these models also enable one to discover where the trend is not followed. By exploring this one may potentially gain a greater understanding of the general rule.
